Rural household ‘The Taste of Memory’ is owned by Bogdanović family. This family has been making traditional Njeguški cheese for decades. Spouses Drago and Vera Bogdanović stay here during the spring, summer and fall months, and they grow vegetables typical for the region.

Together with the old tastes of the region and dishes that have been served here for centuries, ‘The Taste of Memory’ rural household grows vegetables in their garden, vegetables that add that special something to their cuisine. This is a rock-strewn area, deficient in water, so the garden is planted with vegetables that don’t need to much water – white potato, onion, garlic, carrot, celery, cabbage, collard and spices. Fruit is made into juices and jams, they also make dandelion syrup, and they dry different plant species and make tea of them (thyme, mint, mugwort, linden…) If you choose to visit at the right period, you can take part in these activities.

This household is situated at the foothills of the mountain Lovćen, some 1 – 2 km away from the National Park Lovćen and only several kilometers from one of the most beautiful viewpoints ever, the place overlooking the entire Boka Bay. This is a distinct countryside where Mediterranean and mountain climate mix together. This is a famous historical place situated between Boka and old Montenegro. This natural and historical mix has influenced the culture, architecture, way of life and food. For decades, the people of the region have used this distinction to create the well-known Njeguški cheese and ham, which, together with bread and mead, make the typical cuisine of the area. The household is situated in the hamlet called Kopit, only a hundred meters away from the central part of Njeguši, the place where a famous partisan monument and post office is placed. The household also offers the possibility to taste and buy the products produced by rural households from other Montenegrin regions (mead, brandy, wine and olives). You can try the hiking tours with a licensed guide, too and visit the historically significant locations – get to know the cultural and historical heritage of the region (hiking tour of the Njeguši area, then Krstac – VelikiZalazi tour and finally Njeguši – Lovćen tour).  These have to be arranged. The household offers help and information on transport, nearby locations that should be visited, and accommodation in other places in Montenegro.

Miličić family lives in Dučice, a village situated in the fertile region called Župa. The family is made of its head, Milivoje, his wife Svetlana and their four children. Agriculture (husbandry and gardening) is basic activity of this six-member family.

Cheese and meat are main products, but ample yields of their garden grace their table, too. Fruit grown on farm is used for making jams, liqueurs, brandy, juice and other traditional fruit products.

Miličić household is situated in the forested Župa valley, on a smaller hill overlooking almost entire Župa. Prekornica is the closest mountain, only 7 km away, connected to the household by several trails. Lukavica, Liverovićko Lake, King Nikola preserve are some of the nature riches surrounding the household. Cultural- historic monuments of the region are the St. Luca Monastery from the 15^th century and Voltica, Montenegrin fort from the 19^th century, situated next to the river Gračanica. One or two-hour ride will take you to the Kapetanovo Lake, Ostrog Monastery, wind-park Krnovo, ski resort Vučje, challenging peaks Žurim, Maganik and others.

Vukmirović family lives in the village called Ceklin. They are traditionally into wine-growing and beekeeping. This family is made of three generations.

Basic activities of Vukmirović family are wine-growing and beekeeping. They have a garden where they grow crops for the family and their guests. They have also got an orchard and they produce various fruit products, such as brandy and honey-based liqueurs. Guest can help them in harvesting if they visit at the certain periods of year.

Vukmirović household is situated in the proximity of the National Park Skadar Lake. A hiking trail, which is also an old trade road from Cetinje to Rijeka Crnojevića, passes by the household. There is also a cave close by, Lipska cave, some 8 kilometers away from the household. If you take a walk towards Rijeka Crnojevića, you will come by Obodska Cave and the old Riječki town, a place where the first Balkan pressroom operated. Also, in the same direction, a preserve of King Nikola is situated, a place where various animals can be seen. Rijeka Crnojevića can be reached by boat too, or you can go by bike, and we have several at the household. The household is 4 and a half kilometers away from Rijeka Crnojevića and 12 kilometers from the cultural and historical center, Cetinje.

A village called Dide is home to Danijela and Rajko Vujić and their three children. Beekeeping is their family tradition and it has gone on from the grandfather Vidak, father Petar to new generations. They are also into farming, fruit growing, wine growing and husbandry, for the family and their guests.

A visit and lodging in a healthy, natural environment; tasting of traditional and organic products from the family farm, such as beekeeping products, meat products, agriculture, fruit growing and wine growing ones, too; sightseeing and feeding animals and poultry; hiking through mountains all the way up to potholes and caves; a respite in a fresh, opaque forest; recreation; collecting herbs and forest fruit; socializing next to the camp fire with nature sounds in the background.

Village Dide is situated within the unspoilt countryside of Katunska Nahija, the place which is the heart of old Montenegro related to architecture, culture, history and life in Montenegrin mountains. Vujić household is located in the background of Boka Kotorska Bay, at the altitude of 650 m, at the foothill of the mountain Lovćen. Several roads lead to the village:

• Cetinje – Resna – Dide (25km);
• Kotor – Njeguši – Resna – Dide (50km);
• Risan – Grahovo – Trešnjevo – Dide (60km);
•  Nikšić – Čevo – Dide (50km);
• Danilovgrad – Čevo – Dide (40km).

Novaković family lives in Podgorica. They spend their summers on the mountain Lukavica. Their children enjoy the charms of the mountain, while Siniša and Jelena engage in eco-tourism. The idea to make Savrdak – ethno house- came in Siniša’s dream and he did it and named it: My dream.

(After several years of hard work, my dream has become true. I saw the house of my dreams, the home of my grandfather …. I am immensely happy that I have succeeded in realizing my fantasy and that’s why it has a symbolic name, My Dream).

The object includes 6 twin rooms with bathrooms and a restaurant which serves national cuisine. For all the people who want to take a break from everyday life, run away from civilization, breath clean air, drink pure spring water and eat homemade healthy food, who want to enjoy the pristine nature and silence, this is the place for you.

My Dream object is situated at the outside edge of a former civilization. The old Katun of the Piperi tribe (village Mrke) is located on the top of the rock overlooking the vast meadows spreading to the east and west side and thus, there is no way for the sun to rise and set unnoticed. On the north side, it borders with the hill Gornja Lukavica, then three hundred meters east of the object a monument called Nikšin Kiljan, believed to originate from the middle ages, is set. This place also hosts one of the most beautiful churches of this era, dedicated to the prophet Ilija, where a large fair is organized every year, and which is visited by lots of people.

Saveljić family has lived in Gradina for centuries and, as opposed to most Montenegrin villages where people are moving from or have already moved from, they have remained in the village and worked in agriculture. The farm, owned by this family, has brought a large number of visitors to the village and so, they are, beside agriculture, into ecotourism as well, including the professional bird watching. You will be welcomed to the village in two languages, English and French.

The donkey farm was founded on April 26, 2015 and it has several strategic objectives:

Protecting donkeys from extinction

Donkeys are part of natural and cultural heritage of Montenegro and, up to thirty years ago, one could not find a house in the craggy part of the country without a donkey used for many tasks. Due to its rock adaptation and easy maintenance, this animal could be seen everywhere.  Today, they have lost the battle with the industrial revolution, the villages of Montenegro are largely deserted and the donkey lost its previous role.

It has become one of the most endangered species in the country, even more endangered than pelicans. Together with the ones on our farm, there are no more than 150 animals left.

Education

The farm is open for the visitors at the weekends and, for the announced groups from schools and kindergartens, during the weekdays. In December 2018, they have welcomed more than 50,000 visitors. The role of the farm is people sensitization to the problems of animal abuse.

Many children see donkeys for the first time here, they make a contact with them, and they do not stay indifferent during this visit.

Hypo therapy

The farm offers free help to families that have problems with autistic children. Being with the donkeys has proved successful in most cases. Also, since the farm respects the animal rights, the only persons who can ride these donkeys are the children using wheelchair and this therapy can be helpful sometimes. These visits are booked separately and done when there are no visitors on the farm.

Asylum

The farm is asylum for several donkeys we bought in order to save from torture, hunger and hard work.

Donkey milk

Donkey milk is extremely healthy. It can be used for healing or alleviating cough, bronchitis, asthma, eczema, allergies, psoriasis and for recovering the body after radiation or cytostatic use. The milk is one of the best natural products for improving immunity. Almost half of the produced milk is donated for the most difficult illnesses and for children with diabetes. The rest is sold in order to preserve the farm.

Recycling

The farm is made of recycled or used materials. It recycles and asks for your support in this.

The farm has got its own vineyard, an orchard and the field for the production of organic vegetables. It has also got a Visitor Center with a room for up to 25 guests and two apartments (finishing works planned for July 2019).

The farm is situated at one of the most significant historical locations in Montenegro – Gradina Martinićka, within the nature park of the valley of the river Zeta. Beside religious tourism (Ždrebaonik and Ostrog monasteries), cultural-historic one (Gradina Martinićka, Memorial Home of the battle of Martinići and Spuška Glavica), the farm is only a few minutes ride from the attractive banks of the river Zeta.

Bulajić family has recognized the potentials of Grahovo region and they are into producing fruit and vegetables but they are also always eager to welcome the visitors. Djordje, Anita and their three children have returned from the town to rebuild the household their ancestors lived in.

Ethno household Đedovina is located on a vast plateau between brutal Montenegrin rocks and the blue sea of the Bay of Boka Kotorska. At the altitude of 700 meters, a refined scenery and undiscovered secrets can be found and they simply entice you to spend time here or to try the delicacies the family makes from fruit and vegetables. A simple outing, riding a bike to the lake, swimming in the lake or everyday farm works will make your stay an unforgettable one.

Ethno household Đedovina is located on the way to Nikšić or Trebinje and it is 20 minutes ride from the sea (Morinj).

The village has got several cultural-historical monuments (Dako cave, Arboretum, tombstones)

2 km away from the village, a lake great for swimming can be found or you can stroll along the path surrounding it.

The village also hosts St Nikola church which was built in 1499, during the time of Risan’s prince Mirko Vujačić and made by the masons from Dalmatia. There are many more interesting places nearby, such as a pond where an endemic type of tailed frog lives.

Grahovo school is one of the oldest schools in Montenegro, founded in 1870/71.
