Limljani was first mentioned in 1296, in a charter of King Milutin as a gift to the Monastery of St. Nicholas on Vranjina, and again in 1482 by Ivan Crnojević in a charter to the monastery in Cetinje. During the reign of King Nikola, the village thrived – in 1888, the Vir–Bar road was built, still in use today.
