Martinović Katun is one of the oldest Katuns in Montenegro, more than 300 years old. The eleventh great-grandfather founded the Katun. Today, this place is not used as it was in the past, but the family wants to return the old spirit of the katun, to make it as it once was. They plan to do it by introducing the gastronomic offer to the katun, with dishes made in old, traditional way. The hard-working Martinović household is made of 7 members, a grandmother, parents, a daughter, 2 sons and a daughter in-law.
The basic activity of Martinović family is upgrading the offer in the Katun. While it is active during summer months, the most important activity is collecting berries (blueberries, wild strawberries, blackberries, and so on), and wild herbs, which abound in the area. Their main products are juices, liqueurs and jams. The hosts would gladly share the work of collecting berries with their guests. They buy meat and dairy from the locals. One of the special traits of this family is playing traditional music instruments (flute and accordion), the custom passed down in the family from generation to generation. Guests who visit the Katun, will be privileged to hear the sounds of the flute of the former Montenegrin champion in playing flute, to see the collection/exhibits of double flute. The youngest son is professional accordion player.
The stay at Martinović Katun will give you a chance to experience the striking view to 3 peaks of the mountain Komovi: Vasojevićki, Ljevoriječki and Kučki, as well as the chance to climb all 3 of them. The surrounding area of the katun hosts some easier marked hiking trails. Guests can visit two smaller lakes, they are home to Triturus, an endemic species of lizard. Some authentic old-fashioned cottages used by nomads, can be seen close to the Katun, they used to take their cattle there, a long time ago, and these are a real architectural attraction. The nature park Komovi, with its wild beauty, is located in the wider area of the katun. Macadam road, 10 km long, leading from the main asphalt road to the Martinović Katun, is attractive and ideal for bikers.
