The Otašević family from Plav has been nurturing a traditional way of mountain life on Mokra for generations. During the summer, Veselin and Nataša, together with their daughters Jelena, Jovana, and Nevena, stay at Vule’s katun, where they preserve the customs, lifestyle, and values characteristic of katun households in northern Montenegro.

Their daily life is connected to nature, livestock farming, agriculture, and the production of homemade food. At the katun, the family grows vegetables, corn, and fruit, prepares homemade juices, jams, winter stores, and traditional brandy, while numerous recipes and skills are passed from generation to generation. During the summer months, they are engaged in mowing hay, picking blueberries and medicinal herbs, maintaining the katun, and preparing products for the winter.

They welcome guests as friends, with the desire to bring them closer to the authentic mountain life, local cuisine, and the peace provided by a stay in untouched nature.

The Otašević family bases their daily life on traditional agriculture, livestock farming, and the production of homemade food at the katun. At the household, they prepare homemade juices, jams, preserves, winter stores, and traditional brandy according to recipes passed down through generations. During the season, they pick blueberries and medicinal herbs, from which they prepare natural products characteristic of this region.

A large part of the food served to guests comes from their own production or the immediate surroundings, so guests have the opportunity to enjoy authentic local flavors prepared in a traditional way. The Otašević family household is located at Vule’s katun, on Mokra mountain, in an environment of untouched nature, vast pastures, and dense Bosnian pine forests. At an altitude of 1,870 meters, this area is characterized by clean mountain air, numerous water springs, and the peace offered by an authentic katun landscape.

The surroundings are suitable for lovers of active holidays, hiking, cycling, and spending time in nature, but also for those who want to experience a slower pace of life far from the city crowds. During the summer, the mountain areas of Mokra are rich in medicinal herbs, forest fruits, and diverse landscapes that change their appearance through the seasons.

In the vicinity of the household, there are numerous natural and cultural-historical sites, including Stoja’s Cave, the remains of old towers on Vaganica and Kukarski Vrh, katun cemeteries, the historical site at the Ćafa pass, as well as the Church of Saints Peter and Paul.

The Muratović family lives in the village of Kalica, in the municipality of Petnjica, in northern Montenegro, where they have been engaged in animal husbandry and agriculture for generations. The household consists of Ermin Muratović, his mother Mevluda, his wife, and their two children, and the family’s daily life is based on working on the estate and caring for animals.
The Muratović family nurtures a traditional way of life and passes on knowledge from older to younger generations, especially when it comes to food production, cattle breeding, and preserving the customs of this region. Most of the food they produce themselves – dairy products, vegetables, grains, and fruits – in a natural and seasonal way, without industrial production.

A particularly important part of their life is moving to the katun. Every year during the summer, they move to the Pučpolje katun, where they continue a decades-long family tradition of staying in the mountains. There they take care of cows, sheep, and poultry, cultivate a small garden, and make homemade products, living in harmony with nature and its rhythm.

This way of life represents a blend of tradition, self-sustainability, and respect for nature, which makes this family an authentic example of rural life in the north of Montenegro.

The main activity of the Muratović family is animal husbandry and agriculture. In their household, they raise cows, sheep, and poultry, and they devote a significant part of their time to the production of milk and homemade dairy products.

In addition, they have a garden where they grow various types of vegetables, as well as grains such as corn and wheat, from which they prepare homemade bread. In the village, they also produce fruit and natural juices, while during their stay at the katun, they collect wild berries and mushrooms.

Most of the food they use comes from their own production, in a natural and seasonal way. Guests staying with the Muratović family have the opportunity to taste homemade products, but also to participate in daily activities, depending on the season and current work on the estate.

The Muratović family household is located in the village of Kalica, in the municipality of Petnjica, in northern Montenegro. During the summer, they stay at the Pučpolje katun, which is part of the traditional Katun Roads route, known for its preserved mountain landscapes and authentic way of life.

Cultural and historical monuments:
In the center of Petnjica is the Petnjica Mosque, an important religious and cultural object of this region. The local archaeological site where traces of katuns from the Bronze Age were discovered is of particular value, which speaks of the long tradition of animal husbandry and mountain life in this area.

Natural attractions:
The area of Kalica and the Pučpolje katun are characterized by untouched nature, vast pastures, forests, and mountain viewpoints, ideal for a peaceful stay and exploration.

Active vacation:
This area is suitable for hiking, light walks, and staying in nature, and the fact that it is located on the Katun Roads route, which connects traditional mountain households and allows for a unique experience of life on the katun, adds special value.
This location provides guests with the opportunity to get to know a less known, but extremely authentic and preserved part of Montenegro.

During the summer months, the Dubak family moves with their livestock to the Šiška katun, located within the Biogradska Gora National Park. Đorđije and Slavica stay at the katun then, dedicated to daily duties, while their sons and daughter with their families often join them, using every free moment to help and be part of that life.

Livestock farming and beekeeping are deeply rooted in the family tradition, which is passed down to younger generations with love and dedication.

The Dubak family is engaged in various branches of agriculture, nurturing a blend of tradition and homemade production. Their farm includes livestock farming, beekeeping, vegetable growing, and fruit growing, ensuring a diverse and high-quality offer.

On the rural estate, they have an orchard from which homemade brandies, juices, and jams are produced, prepared according to traditional recipes. In the garden, they grow various types of vegetables – potatoes, onions, carrots, zucchini, green beans, beans, cucumbers, peppers, and cabbage, from which they also make various types of salads.

A special segment of their production is beekeeping, while dairy products and meat are provided through livestock farming. Guests always have access to a rich offer of homemade, freshly prepared products that reflect the authentic taste of this region.

The Dubak household is located in the Šiška katun, in the heart of the Biogradska Gora National Park, in an authentic mountain setting that offers peace, beautiful natural landscapes, and numerous opportunities for exploring the surroundings.

In the immediate vicinity are Veliko and Malo Šiško Lake, as well as Ševarinsko Lake, ideal for easy walks and enjoying nature. Hiking enthusiasts can head to Ursulovačko Lake, about a two-hour walk away, as well as Biogradsko Lake, one of the most beautiful glacial lakes in the region, reached by a trail of about three hours.

Hiking and tourist routes pass through this area, such as the katun road “Untold Bjelasica,” national hiking and cycling trails, which connect the most beautiful mountain areas of the region and offer exceptional opportunities for active holidays and multi-day tours. Additionally, a network of local trails leads to mountain peaks (Crna Glava, Zekova Glava) and viewpoints offering impressive views of the surrounding landscapes.

The household is located within one of the last European primeval forests, for which Biogradska Gora is widely known.

Numerous activities are available to guests – hiking, walking, cycling, as well as easy strolls through forest and mountain areas, making this region ideal for day trips and staying in nature.

Pipović family lives in the village of Palež, near Žabljak. There are 5 members living in this family. Radovan with his wife and two sons, as well as his sister. His sons are still students, but they actively participate in the farm activities during the summer months. Pipović’s are one of those families who returned to the countryside from the town, to form their family there. They did it out of love for nature and animals.

Pipović household is engaged in agriculture, they are one of the few families in Žabljak with many different animals on farm, such as cows, sheep, bees, pigs, chicken, ducks, turkeys, geese. They also have a garden and a greenhouse on their farm, where they grow vegetables, which they use for their own needs and for the needs of their guests. Household also owns ponies, guests who visit the property can ride them.

Village of Palež is located just a few km away from Žabljak. In its vicinity, some 2-3km away, the canyon of the river Tara is situated, and there are forest roads leading from the household to viewpoints in the canyon, where you can see the river Tara.

Durmitor National Park is located some 6km from the village, many hiking and walking trails begin there.

Some bike trails that lead to nearby villages are nearby, too.

With the help of people from the household, rafting can be arranged and organized.

A special offer of the household is pony riding.

Karadžić family lives in the village Kovčica and they are mostly into agriculture. Radovan, the grandfather and Olga, the grandmother are retired and they are dedicated to the household while their son Slavko and daughter-in-law Aleksandra work in a school in town and they come to help every day, upon finishing their job.

Karadžić family has their own garden where they grow vegetables and fruit for themselves and for their guests. They make juices and jams and if you visit at the right period, you can take part in these activities. They keep hens, turkeys and pigs. They also own a restaurant within the household where they welcome guests with homemade products and they have rooms and apartments for guests’ accommodation, too.

Kovčica village is situated 6 km away from Žabljak, then 2 km away from Vražje and Riblje lake and Greek graveyard – tombs. Savin Kuk is 3 km away from the household. Durmitor is the mountain where you can tour seventeen stunning lakes and enjoy the breathtaking nature. The household rents bikes to its guests and a neighboring household even offers organized horse riding.

Bulatović family lives in Rovačko Trebaljevo. The household is made of grandmother Stevka, her son Miloš, his wife Lidija and their two sons. Family tradition is working in agriculture and it has continued with new generations. They are into farming, they grow potato, then they grow fruit in the green house and they are into poultry raising. Basic activity of Bulatović family is agriculture. They grow vegetables for their own needs and for their guests. They make juices and jams, different salads and if you visit at the right moment you will be able to take part in these activities. The household is situated in the proximity of the Biogradsko Lake National Park. It is located next to the river Tara, the Tear of Europe. The center of the village is home to the old church, which is only two kilometers away. Katun Goleš is situated 5 km away from the household.

Rovčanin family lives and works in the village called Rudnica, near Pljevlja. They are into rural tourism, with the accent on food and beverage production.

Rovčanin family produce and process fruit and vegetables. They also keep pigs, broilers and turkeys at the household.

Rural household Rovčanin is situated 10 km away from Pljevlja, at the altitude of 1,200 m. The village abounds in hiking trails through conifer forest mostly. It is also well-known for it clean air, a wind rose, good food and it is a perfect place to find peace and rest for your soul.  Some 20 km away from the household, you come upon a Tara bridge, which offers a range of tourist suggestions.

Djalović family lives in the village Vlah, located close to Bijelo Polje. The household is numerous and it’s made of a father, mother and their five children. Agriculture is the main activity of the family. There’s a lot to do at the household, and the entire family is included in work.

Various agricultural production is based on the orchard, more than 100 years old, where the family grows plums, apples, pears, cherries, raspberries, blackberries, they look after their garden well and it gives them every fruit which can grow in the area and at this altitude. We keep a lot of different cattle: pigs, cows, sheep, they wander freely through the spacious meadows.  The host enjoys the most while working with bees. When the fall comes, we begin preparing winter stores, we make different products: jams, juices, preserve, peppers spread, pindjur (pepper relish), sour cabbage/pepper, and many others. There are 12 tons of plums waiting in vats, ready to be made into brandy and we also make blackberry wine.

Djalović household is only 8 km away from Bijelo Polje, and the household is on the same altitude as the mountain. Djalovića Cave (soon to be opened for visitors), the largest attraction of the north of Montenegro, is only several kilometers away from the household. The monastery Podvrh and the church of the Blessed Virgin are not far off, they are situated in Voljevac, as well as the stone bridge from Turkish period, which has an exquisite architectural values, and which is appreciated for its many legends. There are biking and hiking trails passing next to the household. The trails are annular, different in length (from 1 to 20 km) and in difficulty, each guest can choose what they like. For extreme trails lovers, there is one for you too, leading from the household towards Djalovića Cave. There are several drinking water springs in the surrounding area and they are connected with hiking trails and equipped with benches.

Djeković family is made of 10 members, Boško and Vinka, the grandparents, their older son Aleksandar with his wife Biljana and three children: Sofija, Katarina and Ilija and, finally, their younger son Draško with his wife Snežana and two children, Dunja and Dušan. This family comes from Rudo Brdo, a mountain hamlet located some 10 kilometers away from Andrijevica in the direction of Kolašin, at 1,400 m altitude. The old family house of Djeković family in Rudo Brdo has welcomed the sixth generation of successors who will, hopefully, continue to maintain and manage the house and the farm as their predecessors. Even though the family lives at the outskirts of Andrijevica, they spend the larger portion of summer in the village, where many village jobs await, the jobs like planting the garden where you can find various plants common for this area. And then, the autumn comes together with the time when winter stores are prepared, and the hardworking granny Vinka needs only to buy some salt from the shop.

Djekovic household is situated at the foothill of the mountain massive Komovi. A marked bicycle trail passes through the farm. Also, the marked biking and hiking trail Bjelasica – Komovi is situated close to the farm. Montenegro paragliding club organizes jumps from the highest peak, which is one kilometer away from the farm. Some close by attractions are mountain Jelovica, you’ll need an hour drive to get there by an off-road vehicle taking the mountain macadam roads; then Zekova Glava at Bjelasica is also an hour drive away, Biogradsko lake is some hour and a half drive away. Some ten kilometers away from the farm you’ll come along the river Ljubaštica, comprised from a larger number of tributaries from Komovi springs, interesting for the fact that, according to some researches, its sand contains traces of gold (information taken from the book “Life on Komovi” by Bogdan Labović). Close to the farm, five kilometers away, a village Kralje is located, where a guest can visit a homeland museum, as well as the Church of the Ascension of Christ. Remnants of Macuri graveyard and houses can be seen close to the household, an interesting facts that tells a story about the first settlers of the area.

The household employs a 5-member family. They all work alike, mother in the kitchen and with guests accommodation, and the sons are active in organizing horse riding and other tours, as well as in rural jobs, without which the household wouldn’t even exist. The host welcomes each guest cordially, and they are all involved in enabling a pleasant stay for the household guests. This is the reason guests come back year in year out. During the summer period, when there is more to work, they get a lot of help from their relatives and family friends who live nearby. These are, probably, last generations who are raised like this. Their love for village and agriculture is stronger than anything else that comes with modern, present-day society.

Husbandry and horse keeping are primary activities of the Katun rural household. The advantage of this household is that all the dishes served to their guests are produced at their farm. All the meat and dairy products come from the household.

Katun rural household has also got a small garden, products are used by them and by their guests.

As to horse keeping, this is something of a family tradition in this household. Horses are the main offer. The household organizes horse riding school and riding tours. Horse riding school is available to all the age groups. The instructors will help their students to make those first steps easily. It is also possible to organize riding tours, their duration varying from an hour to several days.  You can visit more than 5 lakes and numerous captivating Durmitor landscapes while riding a horse.

Rural household Katun is situated in the National Park Durmitor, at the very foothill of this beautiful mountain. It is placed along the panoramic route leading around Durmitor, the famous Durmitor ring. A charming glacier lake called Pošćensko Lake can be found only several minutes from the household. On the road towards the mountain, just several kilometers away, a visitor comes across three mountain lakes, Modro Lake, Svrablje Lake and Valovito Lake.  And the view on several Durmitor peaks you come upon while on this road is simply breathtaking. This is also the direction towards the Sedlo pass and all the mountain tours start there. And finally, a water spring called Studenac is also close by, and visiting it is simply a must.  Some 4 kilometers away from the household, passing through the lake plateau, two lakes can be found, called Vražije and Riblje Lake and close to these you’ll come across a UNESCO protected Greek graveyard or tombs. Black Lake is 7 km away from the household, and close to it you’ll find Jablan and Zminje lakes. Tara kanyon is 25 km away.  When you take the road towards Sinjajevina, you will pass through villages called Gornja and Donja Bukovica, where the Bukovica river is located, a river famous for its clean, drinking, class A 1 water. This river is also captivating because of its waterfalls and pools, which are naturally carved into the stones of this river. If you continue further on this road, towards Šavnik, you will come upon the Podmalinsko Monastery, dedicated to the St. Archangel Michael and the folk stories say it’s the monastery built by the king Uroš Nemanjić around 1252.
